Just a quick question gang, should we post the animation that we finish online and put them on the blog? For instance, I just finished animating Willy running. Should I post it to youtube and the blog? I can make it a private video on youtube to limit spoilers but I don’t think I can make it a private post for us on blogger. Seeing as we average around 10 page views a day I am worried about giving the shot away before completion. What is your opinion?

Willy Model

Caution team. The new Willy model that was exported, decided to leave behind his face shapes. You can still work with him, but USE IT AS A REFERENCED MODEL. I'm fairly certain the fixed Willy can be xfered over since the rig and geometry will not change. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience, I'll be at the school for most of the week so when he's fixed you can steal him from me.

EDIT: Using referenced models seems bust. Francisco has unsuggested using them, so just animate with the regular model. Another issue seems that some of the animation values are locked in the Kinematics properties of some rig objects. I suggest selecting the entire rig, hitting ctrl + k, right-clicking on the lil' key in the top-left and clicking 'remove animation', that should get rid of the "white" keys.

FURTHER EDIT: In regards to the hair, if adding it using referenced models doesn't work, we can simply add the hair to Willy scene by scene if we have to. So Brett, if you could please jot down the values you're using or the steps you're taking to create the hair that would be great.

STARLIGHT TOO BRIGHT

FADE IN
INT. GARAGE NIGHT

The garage is dark, the only thing visible is a star field glowing dimly. The camera pans across the star filed stopping at small vignette of planets rocket ships and shooting stars, the chain of a light hangs in front of us. The star filed is, in fact, made up of plastic glow in the dark stars. WILLY"S hand comes in from O/S and pulls on light chain, flooding the Garage in light. WILLY turns to his desk and looks down at the open magazine on it. The magazine is open to an article with headline reading "CHANCE OF A LIFETIME!" in a large font, the rest of the page is filled with images of nebulae. WILLY studies it for a while picks it up, turns towards the camera and exits O/S.

EXT. PORCH NIGHT

WILLY is standing proudly on the porch admiring the night sky. He bends down and picks-up his telescope and tripod. Willy walks off the porch O/S.

EXT. BACKYARD NIGHT

Three tripod legs come down from O/S and slam on to three worn spots on the grass. WILLY begins to fiddle with the knobs on the telescope. WILLY swings the telescope towards the sky. The lens passes in front of the camera. WILLY lowers his eye to the eyepiece of the telescope.

EXT. SKY NIGHT

Camera pans from Saturn from an out of focus nebulae. The nebulae comes into sharper focus. Just then light fills the F.O.V until it is completely washed out.

EXT. BACKYARD NIGHT

WILLY abruptly pulls his head away with a confused look on his face. The neighbours House is all lit up with a bright porch light and patio lanterns. WILLY turns around to look to his neighbours.

EXT WILLY'S NEIGHBOURHOOD NIGHT

The neighbourhood is dark with only WILLY'S immediate neighbours house lit. The houses begin to light up, brightening the intire area.

EXT. BACKYARD NIGHT

WILLY turns from looking at the neighbours back to the camera with a shocked expression on his face. WILLY face becomes one of fury, clenching his fists and grinding his teeth. Grabbing his telescope and hoisting it over his head, WILLY storms O/S.

EXT. PARK NIGHT

The tripod legs slam down once again. The camera slowly pans up to the telescope's controls. WILLY'S hands come in from O/S and begin fiddling with the controls more quickly than before. WILLY swings the telescope in front of the camera and toward the sky. WILLY begins to lower his head toward the eyepiece. A sudden noise in the background caches WILLY'S attention. He looks up with a confused look on his face. WILLY begins to whip his head around frantically looking for the source of the noise. WILLY turns around, facing the dark background. Suddenly, a set of bright stadium lights pop on. WILLY is totally startled. Throwing his hand in the air in shock, WILLY looses balance and falls backwards O/S taking his telescope with him..

EXT. STREET NIGHT

WILLY'S telescope falls from O/S and lands on the back of his scooter. WILLY follow and lands on his scooter like a cowboy. The impact of the landing start the motor and WILLY peels out. Driving past the camera and WILLY zips over hills and drive up the mountain in the distance.

EXT. MOUNTAIN TOP NIGHT

The light from WILLY'S scooter is seen coming around the corner. The scooter rounds the curve quickly, skidding to a stop in front of the camera. Jumping off the seat, WILLY lands in front of his scooter and camera. Parts of the tripod come flying from O/S and streak across the night sky, the camera follows. The first leg lands and sticks in the ground, the remaining pieces soon follow snapping together automatically. The telescope flays on screen landing in its place on the telescope. the momentum of this causing the telescope to spin on the tripod. With a fiendish grin on his face, WILLY grabs the spinning telescope and lowers the eye piece into place. He leans forward and look through the eyepiece.

EXT. NIGHT SKY

The camera pans across a star field, stopping and zooming in on an unusually bright star. The star circles around, and then flies O/S. Suddenly a cluster of stars whizz past the camera. The star filed is flooded by light. A firefly flies toward the camera, it's face filling the F.O.V. It grins evilly.

EXT. MOUNTAIN TOP NIGHT

Fireflies are buzzing all around WILLY. He looks around shocked.

WILLY

"Fireflies!?"

WILLY begins uncontrollable giggling. The giggles quickly increase to chuckle, then becomes a full blown manically insane laughter. Walking over to his scooter he opens the saddlebag and start digging though it flinging the other junk over his shoulder. WILLY pulls a can of bug spray out and holds it up, he shakes his head dismissively and tosses it over his shoulder. Digging through the saddle bag again he finds something. Holding up an another can of bug killer, he thows it away and shakes his head again. Reaching deep into the saddle bag and pulls out a giant can of bug spay. He holds it a loft triumphantly and begins pumping the spray can frantically spraying a generous amount of the poison all around the mountain top. The spray obscures the view for several seconds. Once the spray has dissipate WILLY stands panting to catch his breath. He walks back to his telescope triumphantly and prepairs to resume his observations. Just as he lowers his head, he pauses quirking a brow as if something is not quite right. The mountain top seems to be growing lighter and lighter. WILLY turns to look behind him. WILLY stands shocked and stiff as if turned to stone. The sun is slowly rising. The camera pans around to reveal WILLY'S face. He stares, in total disbelief at the sunrise, a look of total shock on his face.
Tossing his head back and throws his hands to the sky.

WILLY

"AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!"

INT. GARAGE DAY

WILLY sits at his desk staring at the astronomy magazine on his desk. He is looking the page proclaiming "Once in a lifetime chance!" Staring at it, WILLY'S face becomes a tormented look of agony. He lets his head fall, forehead striking the magazine. A firefly lands on the page in front of Will's face, it blinks it's light sporadically. Snarling, WILLY stands slams the magazine shut. Thinking that he killed the bug, Will smirks. He turns and begins to walk off pausing to turn of the light. WILLY walks O/S, we hear a door close, leaving the room pitch dark save for the dimly glowing plastic stars on the wall. The magazine begins to stir.The firefly emerges from between the pages and slowly blinks on his light. He flies slowly to the ceiling and begins to fly in lazy figure eights.

Hate to sound like a broken record here but this is going to be tough! We can do it thought! Remember to ask for help if you need it. There is no weakness in differing to a more experienced person for help.

As you can see, Roman's schedule is animation heavy, that's because your the lead animator this semester! Congratulations! Anything I pose out or key you can fiddle with. I should help keep this looking nice and homogeneous.

Ian's got the the weight of the modeling and mat painting. Think of what that will look like on your resume! Feel free to farm out some stuff to others, like Justin (just let me know so I can credit them).As you see, I gave myself 2 weeks to do the facial rig. I'm not certain if that is enough though. I have never built a facial rig so this is going to be tricky. Hopefully Francisco and Graeme will help me. Other than that, I a bit of a jack of all trades.

I'm letting out the leash this semester because you guys worked so well last one. Don't make me regret it! Anyway, remember to check with me when you feel you have finished one step and want to go on to another. That's it for me. Hope we have a heck of a semester!

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Willy (And A Few Things You Don't)

Age: William Quentin Herschel was born Thursday, August 13, 1964. He was the second born child to Joseph Charles Herschel and Margarite Henrietta Herschel (nee Lassel). His older brother is Nicholas Robert Herschel (1960); his sister is Caroline Mary Herschel (1970).Gender: Willy is a heterosexual male and is quite happy with that.

Ethnicity: William is fourth generation Canadian of German decent. He is, however by no of pure Germanic decent, after such a long time in Canada the Herschel's blood is quite mixed. William considers himself Canadian above all.

Height: Willy is 5'11" but due to his poor posture he appears to be much shorter, around 5'7".

Weight: Willy weighs 130lbs. He is self conscious of this fact as he is a little on the scrawny side.

Love Life:
There is very little to tell when it comes to the love life of Willy, he is not the type to kiss and tell. He also really dose not like to latch on to a person in a relationship, there for he have trouble keeping one due to lack of interest. Since relationships are not of high importance to Willy, he is happily single. He finds companionship to take too much effort, and takes too much time away from his astronomy hobby. Colleagues jokingly say that he is married to his telescope.

Health:

Willy is in average health for a raccoon of his age. He is a bit out of shape and is not overly strong. He occasionally suffers from gout in his right big toe.

Intelligence:

Willy is a raccoon of exceptional intelligence. Having an intelligence of 139 he is eligible to join Mensa, but has not as he dose not see the need to "have to meet a bunch of people".

Education:

Willy is a bit of a book worm, and an over achiever when it comes to academia. He was the salutatorian of his high school, loosing the coveted valedictorian to an athlete scholar. He also excelled in his post secondary studies and currently holds a BEng and M.Eng. from The MÃ½val institute of Technology.

Evolutionary cycle:

Currently in his mid-life, Willy has yet experience the infamous crises. It is unlikely that it will happen though due to Willy anal-retentive nature.

Culture:Raised in a lax Lutheran family, Willy currently dose not follow any main stream religion, if anything, Willy tends to believe more in science than religion. He dose not like that which cannot be describe by numbers. He is intrigued by the Pythagorean philosophies.

Food: Willy eats to live not lives to eat. He feels that taking time out of his day just to prepare something that will inevitably consume is a waste of time. As such he eats a ludicrous amount of junk. The staple of his diet is pizza pockets and he dreams of the day that all food is in pocket form. His favourite food is shrimp or prawns.

Sleep habits: Like all astronomers and raccoons, Willy is a night owl; he tends to stay up until late at night. Usually he is awake past midnight. When he is out stargazing he usually stays awake till 4:00 or 5:00 AM. Due to this Willy has difficulty adopting normal sleeping and waking times, as such he has problems getting up for his 9:00 to 5:00 job.

Family: As the middle child Willy often have the sense of not belonging. He fought to receive attention from his parents and others because he felt that he was often ignored or dubbed off as being the same as another sibling. Being in the middle young Willy felt insecure. Lacking direction in his early life Willy often looked to Nick for leadership. In an attempt to garner more attention from his parents, Willy became a bit of an academic over achiever. Being the middle child, Willy was a bit of a loner in school, although he had a small group of like minded friends. Willy remains close to his family; the Herschel siblings still gather every Sunday for dinner at there parents home.

Money: Willy is fairly well off; he feels that money is the means not the ends. He is financially secure enough to save for retirement and spend a great deal on telescopes and other astronomical paraphernalia.

Profession: Willy is a structural engineer with Procyon Services. Not liking to take the limelight for anything, Willy is not over achievers at work, (he no longer is attracting his parent attention) and just simply work enough work to get by. When forced to use abilities, Willy is one of the best men at the firm, but dose not work well under pressure

Body Structure:Although he is under the average weight for a raccoon of his age, Willy is doughy and has a bit ponch. His legs and arms are thin and his elbows and knees protrude. He is pigeon toed. Willy constantly slouches as if he is trying to make himself smaller. He often draws his hands up to his chest in a protective gesture. He walks with small measured steps and tends not to hurry unless he is in the direst of circumstances. Willy keeps himself well groomed even if he has little care in his outward appearance. Years of too little sleep have left Willy looking perpetually tired.

Flaws: Willy has Asperger's syndrome, a neurobiological disorder. Individuals with AS can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest, in Willy's case astronomy. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naivete, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like "little professors." However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context.

Idiosyncrasies: A raccoon of habit, Willy dose not like to leave the comfort of his routine. He is quite easy to irritate if he is forced to leave his comfort zone, and will throw a temper tantrum like a petulant child if things deviate from his plan. Willy prefers the diminutive Willy over Will as he feels names should not be homonyms. Willy also care about the clenliness of his hands to an obsessive point, often washing his hands a dozen times a day.

Goals: Willy hopes to see all the objects on the "Astronomical A-List" This will require travel to the opposite hemisphere.

Dreams: In his dreams, Willy sees himself as having quit his job and becoming a full time armature astronomer, traveling the world with his telescope, having to worry about nothing more than cloudy nights and light pollution.

Talents: Willy has an excellent memory for numbers, for example, he knows pi to 1000 places. He can also interpret coordinates on star charts and find the place in the sky almost instantly.

Addiction: Being the night owl that he is Willy love coffee. On nights that he is not out observing, he often takes non prescription sleeping pills to help him sleep. He dose not smoke and drinks moderately. Willy's biggest addiction is to astronomy, He spend almost all his time thinking about astronomy, often daydreaming at work, much to the annoyance of his superiors, Willy also spends a great deal of money on his hobby, he recently converted the garage of his home into a study dedicated to astronomy.

Not Willy

Ok folks, to get things started here I'm going to post all of the character work I have done, even though we did not use any of it, it's nice to see where we have come from. Here they are in no particular order.
I call this one "thin Willy". The group had chosen this thin Willy for out protagonist and we where hammering out the final ideas until Francisco mention that animating an animal tends to de easer as people are less critical of there movements. Back to the drawing bored!
Shaggy Willy reminds me of Shaggy from Scooby-doo, he is also quite boring to look at.
Willy the otter was quite cute, and I liked him. Unfortunately he was to cartoony for some peoples taste.
This guy looks like he belongs in a porno, not a story about astronomers.
I admit, I am smittened by this little guy, I thought he would be great as Willy. Sadly the style is too reminiscent to "Snap" a previous AnPro project. Also we wanted to move away from humans.Mod Willy is too trendy and not old enough.
I'm not all that good at anthro art, so Badger Willy number one came out looking quite cute and young , not older and wise like I wanted him to be.Ian and Justin liken this guy to Moby, what do you think?
I really like this guy, I think he is gust the right mix of cute, nerdy, old, and wise, that Willy needed. He sort of looks like William Peterson, probably because I was watching CSI while I was drawing.This guy is way too young and not at all geeky enough to be Willy!
Like I said, I suck at anthro, but this coyote astronomer is sort of cool.This Willy is dull as dishwater.For some reason I thought that Willy could be portrayed by a deranged mountain lion, I was wrongYes, another badger, I like badgers so sue me. Anyway I like this guy He could of been a good Willy I thought. Note the Louie the Lighting bug in the corner.

And finally we have Willy as portrayed by Fry from "Futurama"
